Comment on FERC Project No. P-12053 West Valley Hydroelectric Project

To Whom It May Concern:

Please accept this letter as a protest regarding the proposed installation of a hydro-electric plant upon the South Fork of the Pit River in Modoc County, California.

I have viewed photographs of the river, as portrayed on your web site, of the effect upon the river should this project become a reality.

We believe this project will:

  1. Endanger the fish habitat;
  2. Adversely affect water quality;
  3. Adversely affect the environment and wildlife;
  4. Severely limit recreational opportunities;
  5. Affect public health and safety by limiting fire fighting resources and encourage mosquito infestation in slow-moving waters;
  6. Create a noise nuisance;
  7. Change the natural flow of the streambed;
  8. Ruin the scenic beauty of the area.
  9. Ruin Native American cultural sites which can never be replaced.

I believe that in this particular situation, a hydroelectric plant is not suitable and would be a detriment to us, members of the public.
