PoetSPEAK was founded in March 2000 by Joyce Keller. It was Joyce Keller's vision to have poetry read out loud. PoetSPEAK is held the second Sunday of each month in the central library on Church Street in Santa Cruz, upstairs at 2:00 p.m.

In January of 2000 Poetry Santa Cruz got involved and suppied featured readers, as well as increased attendance. All PoetSPEAK readings include an "Open Mike" so poets are encouraged to bring poetry to read out loud.
