John Muir Lives!
"Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life." John Muir

In February of 1849, the Muir family, with 11 year old John Muir, emigrated from Glasgow to New York, the trip taking six weeks by sailing ship, then via the Great Lakes and wagon to Fountain Lake, Buffalo Township, Marquette County, Wisconsin.

STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES
for a Strong and Effective Sierra Club

We are a network of Sierra Club grassroots activist leaders who believe the preservation of the web of life and the restoration of the natural world are of paramount and critical importance.

THE SIERRA CLUB can be an effective organization that specializes in public outreach in support of environmental protection and mobilization of activists on a wide range of issues.

We believe that the grassroots members must be constantly vigilant to keep the Club true to the principles of its founder, John Muir.
